Opportunities at OUMC for Music:

  • Chancel Choir (Adult/Youth) - 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings
  • Chancel Hand Bells (Adult/Youth) - 6:00pm on Monday evenings
  • Children's Choir - during the school year
  • Children's Hand Bells - during the school year

Note from the OUMC Minister of Music Praise Ye the Lord.  Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.  Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His greatness.  Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp.  Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.  Praise Him with the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals.  Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.  Praise ye the Lord!

Wow!  It sounds like we’ve just scratched the surface of the mandate given us in Psalm 150.  What an exciting opportunity we have ahead of us.  Singing, dancing, instruments, drama – all ways we can participate in service and praise to our Lord.  As we begin our ministry of music and arts together, let’s take advantage of the gifts and blessings given to us by God.

I invite all of you to seriously consider joining this ministry as we look to grow in size, grow in opportunity, grow in excellence and grow in how we “praise the Lord”.  There are many of you whose talents have sat dormant for far too long.  It’s time to make a joyful noise and sing praises to the God who gave us life and breath.

So, whether you’ve been a part of the music ministry in the past or have had any thoughts of participating in the future, this is a chance to get in on the ground floor of something new. Many names have been forwarded to me of individuals with various vocal, instrumental, dramatic and even dance talents.  As we explore the vast possibilities of this ministry let’s not limit our thinking to the “way we’ve always done it”.  Our goal as ministers of music and arts is to find ways to bring more people to Christ.  Please feel free to contact me if you have an interest in the arts ministry of the church.  We won’t be able to do everything right away, but we should at least think along the lines of expanding the ministry.

And now, a special invitation…If you have ever been, ever wanted to be or ever thought about the possibility of singing with the Chancel Choir, I invite you to come and visit us on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 for a quick fellowship time prior to our 7:30 rehearsal.  This will be an opportunity to meet some of the current choir members and then to sit in on our first rehearsal following the summer break.  (I’m told peach ice cream may be part of our light fare.)

And finally, I’d like to thank the entire church family for the prayers, gifts and words of support and encouragement you given me.  The pool party/cookout was a wonderful
opportunity to meet many of you.  You have certainly made me feel welcomed and I am looking forward to many years of serving you as Director of Music.
