Sojourners Class - The Sojourner Class has a very long and fulfilling history at SUMC.  Adults in our class grow through seeking to understand the original meaning of the Biblical text, historical usage of the text throughout church history, and the application of the text to our Christian experience today.  The class shares an outreach ministry through cards, prayers, visitation, and support.  The class is currently studying the Gospel of Luke.  Teachers - Harold and Louise Fulp, Classroom 33

Joy Class - The Joy Class, a collection of Christian men and women at different places in their journey of faith, will begin a study the first Sunday in November called The Stories Jesus Still Tells by John Claypool (an Episcopalian minister who recently retired from serving a church in Birmingham). This is written for lay persons, and if we will study faithfully, we should have good discussions of what Jesus meant and how we live into these stories today. During the month of October, Jim Brewster will lead the class in a study of Acts. Jim is a retired United Methodist minister and a member of the class, and we are fortunate to have him in our midst.

The class joyfully shares a vital ministry of prayer, cards, and missions, and we welcome all to our class as our ages span decades.  Even though we are a large class, we discuss, laugh, sometimes cry, and care for one another and the community around us, and all participation is voluntary.  Teacher - Marilyn Boyce, Classroom 37

The Emmaus Class - was formed originally in 1996 as a Pastors' "Methodism 101" course which studied UM Doctrine, John Wesley, and spiritual formation.  From this original group, the Emmaus class came into being in 1999.  Adults of various ages enjoy the study of scripture through classic and contemporary literature.

NEW STUDY FOR LENT! Please join us as the Emmaus class revisits eight companions from the past that will help guide us through Lent, starting from Ash Wednesday to Easter, and beyond.  The study includes daily readings, scriptural reflections, and prayer.  The author is Helen Julian, an Angelican Franciscan sister and member of the Community of St. Francis.  Come and travel “The Road To  Emmaus”.  Please contact class leader, Bren Feutz @ 326-4517 so she has a book available for you.   Classroom 29

The Seekers Class - Our name identifies our members as "Seekers."  As such, the class searches the scriptures in order to discern God's purpose for our lives; and discerning God's purpose, to act on it.   The class uses the International Series for their Sunday School material.  Teacher - Sue Redfearn, Classroom 24 Seekers class

Christian Home Class - The Christian Home Class was formed in the spring of 2001.  Strengthening faith of families and helping parents deal with real-life issues through the spiritual support of the SUMC family are offered through the study of books and workbooks.  Putting God first in our lives and our children's lives will facilitate learning skills for good parenting.  The class is currently studying Yours are the Hands of Christ: The Practice of Faith by James C. Howell; Published 1998.  The timeline for this study is September 10 through November 19th, 2006.  Teacher Roger Giles

Logos Class - Lively discussion, questions with answers (on occasion), prayer, Christian fellowship, and love characterize the newly-formed Logos Class.  The class is currently studying To Walk and Not Grow Weary by Fran Sciacca.  This study includes 12 cameos of God's people under pressure.  You will learn how to identify human problems and welcome God's solutions.  These Biblical men of faith survived life's adversity and stand before us now as testimonies of the eternal grace of God.  Join us as we discover ways to renew our strength in depressing circumstances by redirecting our focus back to Jesus.  Teachers - Jim and Lois Craig, Classroom 22
